Fairchild Tiffany & Co Original Vintage 1970s Solid Gold LED Digital Watch. One of the very first red LED digital watches to go on sale at Tiffany & Co, this mysterious and classic watch is still.

Do you think the first Apple watch bought in 2015 will still be working 45 years later in 2060? As far as I can see, there is ONLY ONE Tiffany & Co solid gold watch available worldwide today. Google and you'll see what I mean. Before I continue, a note about charitable donations.. I believe they do a fantastic job saving lives at sea and (though considered the 4th emergency service), it breaks my heart to say they have no funding from the UK government whatsoever.

However I'd like you to rest assured I haven't added the cost of the charitable donation to the price - the donation will be coming out of my share. This has got to be one of the world's most beautiful LED digital watches. I couldn't count the number of times I had'oohs' and'aahhs' or'wow cool watch! From people who saw me wearing this timepiece. The dark dial, the Tiffany & Co logo, the stylish modernity of this watch all come together to genuinely captivate people, especially when they learn of its heritage and vintage.

I've had the pleasure to own it for about fifteen years but as I'm reducing my watch collection to cover the cost of expensive DIY projects, I'm genuinely reluctant to offer it here. Video demonstration of the ACTUAL watch you'll be receiving! Incidentally, in the video I mention the watch strap is new but that is in error. What can I tell you about it?

In the early 1970s Fairchild (famous watch makers) were commissioned by Tiffany & Co to produce a state-of-the-art LED watch in solid gold. The result was this beautiful watch.

LED stands for Light Emitting Diode, and was a revolutionary method of creating low power light as it emits no heat whatsoever. Up till then it was impossible to create a watch that told the time with light that wouldn't drain a tiny watch battery. It also used an astounding method of creating accurate time - by pulsing an electrical current through quartz crystal.

Here's an interesting fact - with the advent of digital watches, concern was raised on how the word clock-wise and anti-closewise would lose its meaning! The solid gold watch weighs around 29 grams and I estimate the internals of the watch to be about four grams meaning the gold content is about 25 grams - almost a full solid ounce of gold! However that is only a guess - I'm loathe to take the internals out to actually weigh the case so it coud be more...

If you're interested in investing in gold, what a lovely and unusual way to add something. Rather than just a lump of metal, to your collection.

In fact, as the price of gold increases, I will increase the offer price on this watch to match until it sells. Here the watch is displaying the hours and minutes. The dimensions of the watch are 24x33x8mm, so unless you like HUGE watches, it's perfect for a man or a lady.

You can see this vintage watch is in lovely cosmetic condition. Of course, being vintage, it is bound to show wear, but even so you can see it's been lovingly looked after. And that's no surprise. You can see the Tiffany & Co logo is still smartly printed on the crystal of the watch.

Notice too the angular button on the right hand side. Beautifully stylish in its placement. This is displaying the month and date - the 7th month, July, and the 9th date. Quartz watches keep time by the'heartbeat' of a quartz crystal which vibrates at 32,768 times.

You can see the adjustment node in the centre of the case - by simply using a pen tip to set the time and month/date it's easy to program the watch. It will however, be set to the correct time on dispatch to you with a fresh battery included. The watch displaying the seconds after a third press of the button. Tiffany & Co is a US company so this model tends to sell from America. However, the watch above being offered was STAINLESS STEEL - not solid gold!!! What would that put the value of. Suddenly you can see the value in my watch. The solid gold case has a nice depth as you can see, looking remarkably like a solid chunk of the lovely and delectable Cadbury's chocolate squares! Another passion of mine - chocolate! So beautiful you almost want to eat it! It comes with a tan watch strap which, though used, is still fully functioning. Here on the back of the watch you can see the Fairchild logo with details of the 14 carats of gold you're receiving along with a serial number. Most gold watches are 14 carats. The reason why it's 14 carat gold, and not higher is because jewellery gold has to be robust to take the knocks and scrapes of real life. Had it been made of 24 carat gold, the precious metal would have been so soft you could press a firm thumbnail into it! You can see the gold case is in pretty good condition but please don't expect perfection! This is a fully working antique or vintage watch - I'd prefer you came around and saw it with your own eyes because it's incredibly difficult to take a shot that shows the imperfections. Close up of the watch face with the logo clear for you to see. I can tell you though that the time displays for approximately one second before switching off. Displayed is the hour, minute, seconds, along with date and month (numerical) when pressed a second and third time in sequence. Notice how beautifully simple the design of the digits are.

LED slenderline numerals from the 1970s. Classic, simple, a style that was clean and precise.

They kept the design slenderline to save battery power and for clarity of presentation. Today, LED digital watch displays look cheap and somehow fake and'cut out'. I'll show you what I mean..

The digits look cheap with an attempt at that slightly cLuNky'space-aged' numeral design. That's what they tend to look like today.

I much prefer the classier, cleaner slenderline numeral design from the 70s era. They literally do not make them like that anymore.

Photographing the watch head on will look like this to most people including yourself when you glance at the time. However, remember this watch about fifty years old! So here I've tried to angle the camera to show the SURFACE of the watch. It does have age-related scratches on the crystal. However I doubt any watch that old is pristine. If that does bother you, come and visit the watch in person. I'll be happy to show you it in the flesh. Alternatively, it IS possible to remove the scratches if you go to a watch repair company that restores watches. However, personally I'd be careful not to make the watch appear new as it'll take away its vintage heritage - but that option is possible should you wish it. The watch is a genuine classic and has been treated well. Nevertheless the crystal isn't perfect. However, because the crystal is dark you won't really ever see them. However I've tried to highlight the scratches it has accrued over 50 years to show you honestly.

Looking carefully at the photo and magnifying it will help you see the blemishes more clearly so you're aware of them. In real life, no one (including you) will ever notice - all they'll see is this cool, dark faced classic Tiffany watch! If you're unsure, I'd personally prefer you to come around and visit it for yourself. Barring that, I hope this photo helps. It's Tiffany & Co - enough said!

Solid gold - enough said, again! Suitable for men or women.

(I'm a man and owned it for 15 years). They don't really notice the currently'trendy' Apple watches because everyone has one.

Which would you rather have owned? All data is onboard - it doesn't require wireless data and constantly updated apps to operate, which means it can never become redundant.

It always gets an'ooh' and'aaah' from those who see me using the watch. This watch WILL go up in value over time.

It's Tiffany & Co. A classy, original, stylish and classic digital watch. Will include a fresh battery and comes with tan watch strap.

Please note, though it's displayed in a watch box, that's. Watch box for another watch I own.

I used the case to hold the watch up, but it's not included. I will though include a secure case for your new watch! The Tiffany & Co watch is a vintage. The LED red crystal face isn't perfect. It has wear marks on it as to be expected.

But both are incredibly difficult to photograph because of the shiny surface of gold and because of the dark crystal face. But, as I'll keep repeating, it. I'm just repeating this because someone with laser eyes expecting perfection won't get it!

Personally, I think natural wear adds a certain patina of heritage to the watch. Homes that have been lived in and lovingly used look so much warmer. It's the same with this stunning watch.

It has been used but lovingly so, treated with care and affection throughout the years that shines with vintage class. Incidentally the tan leather strap is in very good but used condition. I accidentally stated on my video that it was a fresh strap but I was mistaken. You genuinely are receiving an exquisite investment that will increase. Both in value and timelessness. IMPORTANT: If you're thinking of snapping it up but you're not sure, just remember someone else is probably thinking exactly the same thing! They could snap it up while you hesitate and once it's gone, it really is GONE FOREVER! Ood luck, whatever you decide!
